Russia and Ukraine

The current conflict between Russia and Ukraine began in 2014 when Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine. This action by Russia led to widespread condemnation from the international community and resulted in Ukraine losing control of its strategic Black Sea coastline. Since then, the conflict has escalated, with Russia supporting separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine in a conflict that has claimed over 10,000 lives.

The latest round of negotiations between the two sides was held in December 2018, but failed to make any progress towards a resolution. The conflict has led to a deterioration in relations between Russia and the West, with both sides imposing sanctions on each other. There seems to be no end in sight to the conflict, which continues to cause suffering for the people of Ukraine.
